Quick answers to the questions people ask most about BatteryInfoView. Everything here is taken from NirSoft’s official documentation and the verified download packages.

What is BatteryInfoView?

BatteryInfoView is a small utility by Nir Sofer (NirSoft) for laptops and netbooks. It displays the current status and information about your battery in two views: Battery Information (F7), refreshed every 10 seconds by default, and a Battery Log (F8) that adds a status line every 30 seconds by default. It shows 19 fields, including Designed Capacity, Full Charged Capacity, Battery Health %, voltage, charge/discharge rate, and — only if the battery provides them — serial number, manufacture date and cycle count.

What is the latest version of BatteryInfoView?

The latest version is v1.27, released in March 2026 (14 March 2026). Its only change is a new ‘Black Background’ option in the View menu, which shows the main table with a black background and white text. The native 64-bit build was added earlier, in v1.26.

Is BatteryInfoView free? What are the license terms?

Yes. BatteryInfoView is released as freeware. You may freely redistribute it, as long as you don’t charge anything for it, don’t sell it or distribute it as part of a commercial product, and include all files in the distribution package without any modification. It is not open source, and the software is provided “as is” without warranty.

Which versions of Windows does BatteryInfoView support?

According to NirSoft, it works on any version of Windows, starting from Windows 2000 and up to Windows 11. Separate 32-bit and 64-bit ZIP downloads are published.

Do I need to install BatteryInfoView?

No. BatteryInfoView is portable: it doesn’t require any installation process or additional DLL files. Simply extract the ZIP and run BatteryInfoView.exe. To uninstall, delete the files.

Should I download the 32-bit or 64-bit version?

Choose the build that matches your Windows: the 64-bit ZIP (132,819 bytes) for 64-bit Windows, and the 32-bit ZIP (118,909 bytes) for 32-bit Windows. The 64-bit build was added in v1.26; before that, only the 32-bit build existed. If you are unsure which you have, check Settings → System → About on your PC.

What does the Battery Health percentage mean?

Battery Health % is calculated from two values BatteryInfoView shows: Full Charged Capacity divided by Designed Capacity, multiplied by 100. Designed Capacity is the capacity when the battery was completely new; Full Charged Capacity is what it holds when fully charged today. NirSoft notes that the health of a new battery should be around 100%, and that it gradually decreases. BatteryInfoView does not publish official good/fair/poor thresholds.

Why is the cycle count (or serial number / manufacture date) blank?

Some information is displayed only if the battery provides it. Serial Number, Manufacture Date and Number of charge/discharge cycles all depend on the battery reporting them. If your battery does not provide a value, the field stays blank — that is expected behaviour, not an error in the tool.

Can BatteryInfoView calibrate, repair or fix my battery, or limit charging?

No. BatteryInfoView only displays and logs information, and can export it to CSV, tab-delimited, HTML or XML files. It has no calibration, repair, revive or “fix battery” function, no charge limiting or charging thresholds, and it cannot change any battery or power setting.

Is there a Mac, Linux, Android or iOS version of BatteryInfoView?

No. BatteryInfoView is Windows-only (Windows 2000 to Windows 11), and NirSoft publishes no Mac, Linux or mobile build of it. Mac users generally use a macOS tool such as coconutBattery instead, and Linux users use system tools such as upower or acpi.

Where can I download BatteryInfoView safely?

Download it from the official NirSoft site. Our download page links directly to the official ZIPs on nirsoft.net and publishes the verified SHA-256 hashes so you can check your file: 32-bit ZIP be98ee432621656ce6041c962964c3e27e998cabd25b535f1102523110538af7 and 64-bit ZIP a01a2dfae2b136ade4efe88b36993256b6121db0f797a827c2b8eea16105246f. A clearly labelled mirror is also offered for convenience, but the official files are the main channel.

Can I use BatteryInfoView in another language?

Yes. Community translation files are loaded via a batteryinfoview_lng.ini file placed next to the exe. NirSoft lists around 30 language packs, including German, French, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Russian, Spanish, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, and more. Several packs are already updated for v1.27, while others target older versions — a language pack’s version is not the same as the program version.
